“Creative” bookshelves

By Nico on Wednesday the 18th of May, 2011 at 2:17 pm

Mario ShelvesA number of sites have round ups of “creative” bookshelves, which win points for novelty, but fail miserably when it comes to practicality.

While the Mario shelves above win points for geekiness, I can only hope they’re used for storing toys and not books. All that block breaking can’t be good for them.

For more examples see the following:

The vast majority of these bookshelves are wildly impractical, or, at best, can only be of use to people who possess but a handful of books. Many look like they would actually harm books placed on their shelves.

Honestly, I just don’t see the point. What’s wrong with traditional bookshelves?

Footnotes:

  1. Grammatically awkward, to boot. []

Vote, it’s important

By Nico on Monday the 2nd of May, 2011 at 11:04 am

Harper RogueJust a reminder to my Canadian readers about the General Election today.

The Toronto LiveJournal community has a great links round up of resources with links advising what is considered suitable identification, when and where you can vote, and many other great resources.

While we’re at it, food for thought:

Despite what Harper says, this election is not “unnecessary”, it’s already changing Canada for the better.

Please vote, it is important.

Ahem. I shall say no more.

So she began to keep track, and in April we held a contest, which I won. By a lot. In May, she tried again, and lost again. It was a silly nonsense contest, but there you have it.

Looking over the list for May, it seems I read far more graphic novels than I usually do (none of which counted for our contest. I’ve finally started on Promethea, which had been recommended to me several times. Inspired by the filming currently under way, I re-read the first Scott Pilgrim, continued with the rest of the books published thus far, then gushed about its infinite awesome. Continue reading »
