Dance Break: Fine in a minute

Amanda Palmer & The Grand Theft Orchestra, “Do it with a Rock Star,” from Theatre is Evil.

Last night I attended a concert at the Phoenix with Amanda Palmer & The Grand Theft Orchestra, featuring a solo performance from Jherek Bischoff (I bought the CD, Composed, he was awesome) and The Simple Pleasure.

I know a lot of people have problems with Amanda Palmer, and I definitely have mixed feelings about her work, particularly in regards to her treatment of fellow artists, but she puts on a fantastic show, every time. It’s hard not to want to be a part of it.

For Neil Gaiman’s birthday she crowd-sourced body paint, and fans painted up, then dressed down while Amanda Palmer sung happy birthday. I caught it on video, right through to the end as the fans surfed through the crowd. It was pretty neat.

She was sick, but she still brought it. She’s a decent musician, but she is a brilliant performance artist.
