Portfolio

Nico Mara-McKay (June 2023)

I have been writing and editing professionally since 2010, with experience spanning copy editing print and digital magazines, managing freelancers, assessing pitches, assigning stories, scheduling content, and developing in-house style guides and lexicons. While my my work covers community newspapers and magazines, content writing, literary journalism, and digital communications, including online marketing, social media and newsletter management, this portfolio is limited to what I have been able to capture through PDFs.

As a consultant and project coordinator, I help organizations design and execute projects that are efficient, inclusive, and impactful. I specialize in integrating principles of diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility into project planning, community engagement, and organizational strategy. With a proven record of managing complex, multi-stakeholder initiatives, national consultations, and community engagement projects, I guide clients in identifying barriers, developing practical solutions, and implementing processes that ensure everyone’s voice is represented and valued. Skilled in event logistics, budgeting, stakeholder relations, and cross-team collaboration, I combine strategic planning with an understanding of systemic inequities to develop and deliver initiatives that resonate with the communities they serve.
